4. The Reign Of King Stephen
The children were discovered in the late 12th century during the reign of King Stephen of Blois after the reign of Henry I. King Stephen is remembered to have an attractive character, he was brave and chivalrous; befitting of a fine soldier, which he was also said to have been.
Most of his reign consisted of a civil war between him and his predecessor’s daughter, Matilda. After the killing of King Stephen’s son and heir to the throne, he acknowledged that his reign could not continue for the rest of his life, as many barons and associates sided with his enemy before the war began.
