20. Archduke Franz Ferdinand (1863-1914)
Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian empire, as an heir, he is said to have lacked the necessary charisma to guarantee popularity. However, the main reason behind his unpopularity was the policies like; dismissing the Austro-Hungarian dualism for Trialism and a triple monarchy involving the Slavs.
His policies were to be implemented once he assumed the throne, but The Black Hand Society in Serbia planned to have him assassinated. During the Archduke’s visit to Sarajevo on 28 June 1914, whilst riding in the motorcade through the streets he and his wife Sophie were shot and killed by a Bosnian member of the Black Hand; Gavrilo Princip.
