2. King Edward VIII – Remarried
When Edward VIII was crowned as King in 1936 and renounced it in 1937 to marry a two-time divorcee, it became startling news for the public and caused a lot of division in social and political domains.
Wallis Simpson, his fiancee, was an American Socialite and her divorce record wasn’t favored by the Church of England, who forbade the marriage.
In choosing to marry Simpson, Edward VIII abdicated the throne which caused a major change in the lines of succession, presenting then 10-year-old, Princess Elizabeth as the next heir to the throne.
