#27 The Year That Sharon Elliott Found Out That She Was Adopted
In 1986, at age fifty-five, Sharon was told by Faith that she had been adopted. Interestingly, most parental counselors suggest that the ideal time for telling children about their adoption is between the ages of 6 and 8.
When children are around 6 years, they’ve established a sense of belonging to their adoptive family, so informing them about their adoption wouldn’t be a threat to that sense of belonging. It is apparent that at the time that she found this out, she felt “completely uprooted” and a void entered her life.
All the family history she assumed through Faith and Arthur Morrow couldn’t apply to her the same way anymore, which introduced a bevy of questions for the discovered adoptee.
