29. 1000-Year Old Mummified Dogs
When archaeologists started excavating an ancient cemetery in Ilo, Peru, they expected to find remains of ancient Peruvian people, and they did – 2000 of them. But what they definitely didn’t expect to find was almost 80 mummified dog remains that were buried alongside them!
This discovery blew the collective minds of the archeological community, who still don’t exactly know the significance of these dogs. But researchers say that these dogs were more than just pets – some of them were wrapped up in finely woven llama wool blankets, just like humans were. This points to the possibility that even back then, dogs were considered a man’s best friend!
