19. This Indian Temple Carved From A Single Rock
Imagine carving out an entire, incredibly complex temple from a single piece of gigantic rock! That is what the Kailasa Temple in India is. This monolith rock-cut temple was built by the Indian king Krishna I between 756 and 773 AD – merely within 18 years – and is part of a network of 34 cave temples called the Ellora Caves.
And this is no simple structure – it is a massive, multi-storeyed temple complex with intricate sculpture and carvings. The attention to detail is so high, that even modern-day technology will find it almost impossible to fashion an entire structure such as this one in 18 years!
