This torture and execution device has been dated back to the 19th century, however, there is no evidence for the existence of the Iron maiden during the Middle Ages.

The torture device is described to be an iron coffin similar to a sarcophagus with internal spikes, the victim would be placed inside the coffin and most likely be fatally injured by the sharp spikes.
