7. King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette
King Louis XVI, who was the last king of France, ruled France from 1774 to 1792, until the fall of the monarchy during the French Revolution. He was only 15 when he married Marie Antoinette, the youngest daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor Francis I and Empress Maria Theresa.
This couple helped inspire France’s Reign of Terror. Instead of leading with a bloody fist, their poor decisions buried France deep in debt, enraging French nobles and peasants.
When the people grew angry and restless, they were executed for treason and died of the guillotine.
