Son of Roman general Germanicus and Agrippina the Elder, Caligula became the third Roman emperor. He came into power well-loved but quickly grew mad with paranoia during his rule from AD 37 to 41.
He executed people at the smallest hint of displeasure and regularly taunted his court with reminders of his power over their lives.
Oh yeah— he also believed he was a living god!
Soon after, Caligula was despised and assassinated by the Romans closest to him.
