30. Most of The Mayan Sites Are Still Underground
Ancient Mayan cities were so elaborate and spread out, that archaeologists are still discovering newer underground temples, cities, and caves that hold the clues to their rich culture and lives.
As recently as 2019, archaeologists discovered the practically untouched cave called Balamku, or the cave of the Jaguar God in Chichin Itza, Mexico. The cave has been found to have over 150 objects used for religious rituals, which can tell us more about Mayan traditions – what an exciting discovery!
