25. The Mayans Are Still Alive
With the Spanish conquest of the Mayans in the 16th century, most of their populations were killed not only by war but by the new diseases that the Europeans brought to their lands. However, the descendants of the ancient Mayans are still alive today!
A majority of the surviving Mayan population lives in Central America, particularly in Mexico, Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. As of today, about 6 million Mayans are still alive.
