19. They Worshipped Fascinating Gods
The Mayans had rich and complex religious beliefs, and they worshipped at least an astounding 250 gods! Together, this vast collection of Gods is called the Mayan pantheon.
While some of these were nature gods such as the sun, moon, rain, and corn, there were other Gods that were patrons of artists, writers, and even tattoo artists. According to some sources, the most important God for them was Itzamna – the God of Fire. According to Mayan legend, he created the Earth and ruled the heavens.
