A poor country girl, Mary Anning lacked formal education but made up for it with her geology knowledge.

She spent most of her time hunting fossils in her hometown of Lyme Regis in Dorset, England.

In her lifetime, she was never really appreciated for her significant contributions to paleontology.

The ‘Mary Anning Rocks’ crowdfunding campaign was initiated by Evie Swire, a thirteen-year-old Lyme Regis resident. The campaign aims to make a permanent memorial in Lyme Regis, which happens to be Mary Anning’s hometown.

In the year 2021, the ‘Mary Anning Rocks’ campaign has stood triumphant and has commissioned a sculptor for the memorial.
