#18 Mary Anning Left Lyme Regis Only Once In Her Entire Lifetime!
Mary Anning, born in Lyme Regis, Dorset, England, was deeply attached to her homeland and culture. As her father was a cabinetmaker, Anning never got the chance to travel far and wide.
She lived in utmost poverty and made whatever she could by selling her fossils to locals and tourists.
However, once in her lifetime, she left Lyme Regis to travel to London. This was her first and only trip outside her hometown.
Despite having been confined to just one place her whole life, her name traveled places where she couldn’t.
Today, Mary Anning is a common name in several scientists’ memoirs, children’s textbooks, and documentaries worldwide.
