#1 A Staffordshire Hoard In The Backyard
In July 2009, an aspirant metal detectorist was wandering along the field of Litchfield, when he heard his metal detector beep. He dug deep in the field to detect a startling collection of gold, garnet weapons, accessories, and ornaments.
After years of archeological research on what, where, and how this gold got in there, Chris Fern, the lead academic of the research concluded that the “Staffordshire hoard” belonged to the period of AD600-AD650 (Anglo-Saxon England).
The discovery made a remarkable identification of the Mercian King being the owner of this treasure.
