#29 Prostitutes Had To Wear Yellow In Medieval Venice
In the early15th century, prostitutes were forced by the Venice government to drape themselves in yellow clothes. Being an important trade port, Venice served as a land of opportunities for women of the streets. The business was profitable both for the women and the Venetian government.
Hence, to milk more profit out of business, the Venetian government permitted the expansion of brothels but simultaneously made it compulsory for the prostitutes to wear a yellow dress for ease of identification.
