#8 Killed By A Robot: Robert Williams (1979)
Robert Williams was one of three operators of a parts retrieval system at a Ford Motor Co. plant. The five-story robot that he operated was used to retrieve castings from high-density storage shelves.
When the robot made errors, Williams was asked to retrieve the castings manually. Unto reaching the third-story, the arm of a factory robot struck him from behind, leaving him fatally injured. He became the first person to be killed by a robot.
